Migrant Voice - Meeting for international students in the UK impacted by Covid-19

Over the last months, we’ve been speaking with a number of international students in the UK who are facing particular struggles due to Covid-19 and the lockdown. Many say they have nowhere to turn for help.

If you’re an international student facing problems – or you know others who are – join us on Zoom on Thursday 20 August, 2-3.30pm, to discuss these issues and how we can work together to raise our voices so those in power can hear them and are moved to act.

In July, we held Migrant Voice’s first International Students Week, celebrating the international students who come to the UK and amplifying their voices on the issues affecting them. We heard that many relied on part-time work to pay their rent and buy the essentials, but with the lockdown, most of that work disappeared and they weren’t eligible for any Government support.

Others have found themselves isolated in their student accommodation and consumed by worries about the safety of their families, often thousands of miles away, while still facing strict deadlines on their academic work. The impacts on the mental health of many international students are likely to be long-lasting.

Now, some students are faced with deadlines to pay fees for the new academic year – impossible when they haven’t been able to work since March.

Join us on Thursday 20 August to tell us what you’re going through and find a way forward together.
