Migrant Voice is working on planning some creative stunts/street theatre to raise public awareness of high visa costs and long settlement routes for migrants. This is part of our campaign, which has been calling to reduce extortionate visa costs to processing cost only and for settlement routes to be capped at 5 years.
Join our next planning and workshop sessions to be part of building the props, making the costumes, writing the script and acting out the performance.
This is for everyone: you don’t need to have any theatrical experience. Join us to help make this event happen and to raise awareness of the issues, whether you are affected by visa fees or not. We have several ideas for the stunts – help us shape them further and make them happen.
Next planning session: Our next Migrant Voice Meet-Up will take place on: Thursday 12th February 6.00-8.00pm.
Where: Migrant Voice, 200A Pentonville Road, London N1 9JP. (please note the lift is currently out of order, and we are on the 2nd floor)

The issue: Migrants coming to the UK to work, study or join family have to pay extortionate amounts for their visas on top of the taxes and living costs that we all pay. Individuals are paying over £3600 every 2.5 years to renew their visas, which is 7-10 times the cost of processing their visas.
Until now, many of those who want to settle in the UK have been on a route that after five years allowed them to apply to stay indefinitely. Some 150,000+ people have been on a ten-year route, with greater cost, instability and harm.
In 2025 the government’s white paper on immigration set out proposals to extend routes to settlement, with some being 10 and even 20+ years long. Paying extortionate costs for so long while being in limbo, unable to fully settle or plan for the future would cause irreparable harm for the individual and society.
