Migrant Voice - Our 'Migration Making Scotland Great' event in Glasgow

To launch our 'Migration Making Scotland Great' project activities, Migrant Voice is hosting a roundtable on how we can challenge the hostile rhetoric on migration through sport.

Date: 8 February (Thursday), 5.30 - 7.30 pm, followed by a networking reception until 8.30 pm

Venue: Glasgow City Chambers, Satinwood Suite, 82 George Square, Glasgow G2 1DU

Book your place here: http://tinyurl.com/MMSGLaunch

The event will explore how migrant athletes act as positive role models and how sport can provide a tool for migrant and refugee integration. We will also exchange ideas on how we can use sports to challenge racism and xenophobia and transform the narrative around migration by showcasing diverse, positive stories of people who made Scotland their home. We will hear from sports personalities, community sports organisations, and the project partners.

Speakers will include:

Graham Campbell, Councillor

Nazek, Ramadan, Director of Migrant Voice

Roza Salih, Baillie and Councillor

Billy Singh, Campaigns Manager, Show Racism the Red Card

Razgar Hassan, Chief Executive of Outdoors For You

Mahdi Bahrami, Equality & Diversity Officer & Senior Football Coach, Achieve More Scotland

Mahnoor Campbell, Trustee, Women on Wheels

Marvin Bartley, Footballer, Manager, Queen of the South FC

'Migration Making Scotland Great' is a new initiative in partnership with Show Racism the Red Card and IMIX to celebrate migration across the UK, and particularly the regions of the Northeast, West Midlands and Scotland.

Using education, facts and sporting role models, the initiative aims to challenge and address many of the myths surrounding migrants and celebrate the contribution made by those who have made the UK their home.

These are not just events for the sporty though. This is the start of an exciting time for a wide variety of activities which will show just how much immigration brings to the country, and why we should be celebrating it.

We look forward to seeing you all there.
