Migrant Voice - London network meeting: The impact of the cost-of-living crisis on migrants

Join our next network meeting in London, which will look at how migrants are coping with the cost of living crisis.

The meeting will take place in person on Tuesday 1 November from 6-8pm at Migrant Voice, 200A Pentonville Road, London N1 9JP.

The cost of living crisis affecting millions of Britons and migrants across the UK, with women, those from ethnically diverse communities and those relying on benefits being worst affected. Migrants are not unique in facing the cost of living crisis, but there can be additional challenges, due to restrictions on visas, the level of asylum support or NRPF conditions, or having to pay thousands of pounds in visa fees that affect how some groups of migrants can manage the increased cost of living.

London Assembly member Sakina Sheikh will join the network meeting to speak about the Mayor of London's cost of living hub. We will also hear from speakers from migrant communities about the impact of cost of living on migrants.

We will also hear contributions from speakers from the following organisations and migrants rights groups:

  • Migrants Rights Network will speak about their campaign on 'right to work' checks.
  • RAMFEL (Refugee and Migrant Forum of Essex and London) will share information about their current campaign to cap settlement routes.
  • The Iraqi Welfare Association will speak about how the crisis is affecting asylum seekers in hostels.
  • The Tamil Welfare Association in Newham will explain how visa fees affect their members.
  • Status Now 4 All Network will talk about how the cost of living crisis is affecting undocumented people and asylum seekers.

We aim for our discussion to lead to a series of recommendations that we can take forward to policy makers and the public to call for change.
