Migrant Voice - Glasgow Network Meeting

Join us on Tuesday 14 July 2-4pm on Zoom to hear from migrant communities and to share your views and experiences of the impact of Covid-19 on BAME and migrant communities, and to discuss potential solutions and recommendations going forward.

The meeting will explore pre-existing inequalities and particular policies that made migrant communities more vulnerable to the effects of the pandemic.

This meeting is organised to ensure our voices are heard. The experiences shared at the meeting and the suggested recommendations will feed into a Migrant Voice briefing which will be shared with the relevant organisations and policymakers in Scotland and in Westminster to help drive effective policy change.

Joining us at the discussion will be:

- Sinenhlanhla Zondo - will be speaking about the experiences of international students in Glasgow

- Marzanna Antoniak - will be speaking about experiences of European citizens

- Ako Zada - a Campaigner End Hotel Detention- will be speaking about experiences of asylum seekers

- Solomon Adebayo - a Campaigner for LGBT rights from Unity- experiences of the LGBT community

- Elizabeth Hutchin-Bellur - Feministas Hispanohablantes Glasgow - will be speaking about the experiences of Ibero-American women.

Migrant Voice’s Zoom network meeting will be recorded in order to help write up our policy briefing but all contributions will be anonymised. You can opt out at any time and can anonymise your contribution on the day.

The meeting will end with a workshop delivered by Karin Goodwin from 'JustRight Scotland' on the 'right to belong' as part of Migrant Voice' 'Know your rights' activity.

The Right to Belong workshop will explore:

What does it mean to belong? What does it mean to be a citizen? As a migrant what rights do you have now? Which rights are you denied if you don’t have citizenship? And how could we change that in Scotland?
