Migrant Voice - Exclusion by Design: Digital Identification and the Hostile Environment for Migrants

Together with Derya Ozkul (University of Warwick) and Marie Godin (University of Leicester) and Open Rights Group, Migrant Voice have produced the report ‘Exclusion by Design: Digital Identification and the Hostile Environment for Migrants.’

You can read the report here

This report is the result of a year-long study examining the impact of e-visas and the digitalisation of status on migrants. Drawing on in-depth interviews, it shows the realities of the digitalisation of migration status, of navigating the transition process, and how it shapes migrants’ ability to claim their rights, as well as the broader implications for their everyday lives.

This report, which was launched 5 December, 2025, is part of the ‘Digitising Identity’ project, led by Derya Ozkul (University of Warwick) and Marie Godin (University of Leicester) in collaboration with Migrant Voice and Open Rights Group, and funded by ESRC Digital Good Network.
