Migrant Voice - Novara Media interviews MV members for a story about the vital, but invisible labour of migrant workers

On 18 December 2020, International Migrants Day, Novara Media pubished an article about the poor working conditions many migrant workers face, the particular problems caused by Covid-19, and the Government policies that create many of these issues. Journalist Sophie Rosa spoke to several Migrant Voice members, including Migrant Ambassadors Miro Cuba, Farisai Dzemwa and Julius-Cezar MacQuarie.

“Sometimes it feels like your life is decided for you… the system decides for you,” said Farisai. “At the very least, people should be given a platform from which they can look after themselves – sometimes [as migrants and low-wage workers], I think we’re not even allowed that.”

“These workers make a huge contribution both economically and culturally,” says MacQuarie, “yet usually the messaging from governments and the media is the opposite – like ‘we don’t want these people, they’re just leeches’, stuff like that."
