Migrant Voice - MV member speaks to Morning Star about impact of not being allowed to work as an asylum seeker

On 29 July, the Morning Star published an article about a new report by the Lift the Ban coalition, which lobbies for asylum seekers to be given the right to work and of which Migrant Voice is a member.

One MV member spoke to the paper about the impact of not being allowed to work: "I get very, very depressed. It feels like my life doesn’t have a value in this country, just because I have this label of asylum-seeker.

“When you work, you discover new skills, you learn new things every day. I could have achieved so much in these two years if I had the opportunity."

MV Director Nazek Ramadan also spoke to the paper, arguing that asylum seekers are "denied the dignity that comes from the right to support themselves and their famililes".
