Migrant Voice is deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Sir Geoff Palmer.
We are proud to have known and worked with him, and learned so much from him. Sir Geoff shared his story of coming to the UK in 1955 at the age of 15, and his journey to becoming Scotland’s first Black professor with us during our recent exhibition at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
Sir Geoff was a passionate and dedicated campaigner for rights and equality, writing articles for the Times Educational Supplement in the late 1960’s and early 70’s on ways in which education opportunities for children from minorities could be improved, paving the way for anti-racism education as we know it now.
We know his legacy will continue, and his work will resonate with communities for many years to come. To have been a part of that is something we at Migrant Voice will never forget, and we send all his friends and families our most heartfelt thoughts at this time.
